Annapurna Base Camp vs Annapurna Cuircuit Trek

May 2023

For trekkers and hikers from all over the world, Nepal is a paradise. The nation is renowned for its gorgeous scenery and stunning Himalayan mountains. Two of the most well-known trekking routes in Nepal’s Annapurna area, the ABC trip and the ABC Circuit trek, are particularly well-known.

The ABC trip, also known as the Annapurna Base Camp trek, is an eight to ten-day journey that ranges in difficulty. Before arriving at the Annapurna Base Camp, which is situated at an elevation of 4,130 meters, the trip leaves from Nayapul and passes through lovely towns like Ghandruk and Chomrong. The hike offers breathtaking views of the nearby peaks, including Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), the Annapurna range, and others.
On the other hand, a more difficult journey that takes between 18 and 21 days to complete is the ABC Circuit trek, also known as the Annapurna Circuit trek. Before arriving at the Annapurna Base Camp, the trip leaves from Besishahar and passes through lovely towns like Chame, Manang, and Thorong La Pass. The hike provides breathtaking views of the Annapurna range, Dhaulagiri, and other local peaks.

It might be difficult to decide between the two treks because they both offer distinctive qualities and attractions of their own. While choosing which journey to do, keep the following things in mind:

Difficulty Level:

The ABC Circuit journey is more difficult than the ABC trek, which is rated as moderate to difficult. You must be in good physical condition to finish the ABC trip since it has severe ascents and descents. The Thorong La Pass, which is located at an elevation of 5,416 meters, is difficult, the ABC Circuit journey covers greater altitudes, and there are longer trekking days.

These hikes provide breathtaking views of the Himalayan peaks and the picturesque Annapurna area. The ABC Circuit walk, however, provides a wider variety of scenery, including high-altitude deserts, dry plains, and lush green woods. On the other side, the ABC trip provides a more focused perspective of the Annapurna massif.

Culture:

By passing through the picturesque towns of the Annapurna area, both treks provide a distinctive cultural experience. The ABC Circuit trip travels through the Tibetan-influenced Manang and Mustang villages, where you may get a taste of the indigenous way of life. The Gurung village of Ghandruk, renowned for its customary architecture and friendliness, is traversed on the ABC trek.

Crowd:

The ABC trip might be busier because it is a more well-liked trek than the ABC Circuit trek. The ABC Circuit trip may be a great alternative if you want a more sedate and peaceful hike.

Both the ABC trip and the ABC Circuit trek, in sum, provide an exceptional and unforgettable hiking experience. It ultimately depends on your preferences, degree of fitness, and available time for the hike. The ABC trip would be preferable if you want a shorter and less difficult journey. The ABC Circuit trip, however, would be a better choice if you’d want a more varied terrain and a strenuous journey.
