Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay :
Sir Edmund Hillary, a New Zealander, and Tenzing Norgay, a Sherpa of Nepal, made history as the first climbers to reach the summit of Mount Everest on May 29, 1953. Their successful ascent opened the door for subsequent mountaineering endeavors on the world’s highest peak. Both Hillary and Tenzing are celebrated figures in the world of mountaineering.
Pasang Lhamu Sherpa Akita:
Pasang Lhamu Sherpa Akita is a pioneering Nepali mountaineer known for her significant contributions to high-altitude climbing. In 1993, she became the first Nepali woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest. Her achievement was groundbreaking, inspiring a new generation of female climbers in Nepal. Pasang Lhamu’s ascent of Everest was a historic moment, breaking gender barriers in the field of mountaineering. Tragically, she lost her life during the descent. In her honor, the Pasang Lhamu Mountaineering Foundation was established to support the empowerment of Nepali women in adventure sports. Pasang Lhamu’s legacy continues to inspire women to pursue their dreams in the mountains.
